    Welcome to Bodhichitra

    The Bodhichitra School of Thangka Painting is teaching Indian youth the sacred art of Buddhist painting. Adventitiously located in Bodhgaya, the place of the Buddha’s enlightenment and one of the world’s most sacred pilgrimage sites, the school has four principle objectives:

    1. to provide skills and employment opportunities to Indian youth;

    2. to provide these young artists with the philosophical and ethical skills to effect positive change in their communities;

    3. to bring home to north India, to the ancient Buddhist state of Magadh, the art form that began here but has since been lost;

    4. to preserve the art tradition of the Karma Gadri for future generations.

    Please have a look through our website, meet our teachers and students, view our artwork, and join us in preserving and promoting this sacred art form.
